The claim says soy 'interferes with thyroid hormone absorption,' but the paper proposes suppression of thyroid peroxidase — an enzyme involved in hormone production, not uptake. This is a single case report (n=1) with no controls; the patient simultaneously stopped the drink and started levothyroxine, making causation impossible to establish. Isoflavone identification was speculative (TLC only, no mass spectrometry). The claim misrepresents both the mechanism and the strength of evidence.
