Creatine Supplementation in Women’s Health: A Lifespan Perspective

    Published 2021

This is a review paper that summarizes existing research on creatine and women's health. Since it doesn't present new data, we'll evaluate the individual studies it references separately. Notably, many of the studies cited only confirm that creatine reaches the brain when taken as a supplement, but they don't actually measure whether it improves cognitive function.

Creatine as a Novel Treatment for Depression in Females Using Methamphetamine: A Pilot Study

    Published 2015
    Reviewer Insight
    12/1/2025

This small pilot study followed 11 women with depression and methamphetamine dependence who took 5 grams of creatine daily for 8 weeks. Researchers measured depression symptoms and confirmed that creatine levels increased in the brain. However, the study had significant limitations: there was no control group (so we can't know if improvements were due to creatine or other factors), and no statistical analysis was provided for the symptom changes. In this case, control group is difficult since authors mentioned there is not standard care for this cases. But they could have follow up for longer and have some statistical to overcome these limitations.
