This observational study has the typical limitations of preliminary research—interventional studies are needed to establish causation. The cohort is primarily non-Hispanic White, college-educated, middle-to-upper socioeconomic status, with most participants having a BMI < 30 kg/m². The findings show decreased mortality when participants ran at least 6 miles/week (~10 km/week) at a minimum speed of 6 miles/hour (~10 km/hr). However, running habits may be confounded by other lifestyle factors such as nutrition."
